  over the past decade, membership has dropped in the us by 20,000. in an article for lrb titled "religion, grrrr" rachel aviv reviews one of the only academic studies of scientology to date.

  I'm not sure about Scientologists, but I"m pretty sure we're seeing the last generation of Jehovah's Witnesses. It's just hard to say how many times that generation will overlap.

  Star Trek - the Borg

  it just occurred to me that we use the term "borg" when talking about the organization.

  it's a cute play on words, but i wonder if the writers of star trek who came up with the idea of the borg had some experience or connection with witnesses.

  Yes - over a long period (years) with gradual reduction in activity

  Were you forced out?

  In the end yes - complicated (PM me for more detail if you want)

  How did you adjust to life on the outside?

  I had already built something of a life outside

  Do you still have social or family connections within the organization?

  Family yes

  What did you do to supplant the lost friends, routine, and sense of purpose?

  I don't have the time to miss any of that

  which reminds me of the truman show, the film that many of us here have taken as a metaphor for realising that the jehovah's witness world is not real.. but now i can't help wondering what happened to truman when he left his fake world and entered the real world.

  i have been in touch with other attorneys on this matter and at the moment i haven't found anyone to take the case just yet.
